What has happened to my car - battery problem now sounds like a belt is broken...? - what happened to wifelovers.com

Yesterday I drove a mile and a half my car when I came back, did not start - the lights went out and no further checking. Company called my rescue and said it was a dead battery and charge it - enough to go to me home.

Changed battery and now car starts well, but now there is a strange sound, like a belt is not right. Has anyone an idea? I hope it is not too expensive!
